Core Beliefs
The following are the core beliefs of Woodlawn Methodist Church based on the foundational truths taught in the bible. All of our teaching and ministry is rooted in and flows out of these biblical doctrines.
Core Beliefs of the Global Methodist Church
Authority of Scripture
The Bible is the inspired Word of God, given to reveal His truth and guide our faith and daily living. It is the final authority for what we believe and how we live.
The Trinity
We believe in one God who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, working together in perfect unity.
Jesus Christ
Jesus is both fully God and fully human. Through His life, death on the cross, and resurrection, He defeated sin and death and offers salvation to all who place their trust in Him.
Salvation
Salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ. We cannot earn it by our own efforts, but when we believe, God forgives our sins, makes us new, and calls us to live a holy life.
The Church
The Church is the body of Christ on earth. We are called to worship God, grow in faith, share the Gospel, serve others, and spread God’s love throughout the world.
The Sacraments
We recognize two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. Baptism is the sign of new birth and entrance into the family of God. Holy Communion is a sacred meal where Christ is truly present, offering grace and strength to believers.
Holy Living
We are called to love God and love our neighbors. Following John Wesley’s example, we practice spiritual disciplines such as prayer, worship, service, and study, growing in holiness of heart and life.
Marriage and Human Sexuality
We affirm marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman. God calls us to honor Him with our bodies and to reserve sexual intimacy for the covenant of marriage.
Sanctity of Life
Human life is a sacred gift from God, created in His image. We are called to value and protect life at every stage.
Creeds and Confessions
We stand in agreement with the historic Christian faith as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. We are guided by the Articles of Religion, the Confession of Faith, and John Wesley’s General Rules: do no harm, do good, and stay in love with God.
